About RajaJi National Park
About RajaJi
Spread across the beautiful foothills of the Shivalik range, Rajaji National Park is one of Uttarakhand’s most treasured natural landscapes. Covering an area of over 800 square kilometers, it stretches across Haridwar, Dehradun, and Pauri Garhwal districts. Named after C. Rajagopalachari, a respected freedom fighter and the last Governor-General of India, the park is famous for its rich biodiversity. It is home to a thriving population of Asian elephants, tigers, leopards, deer, and over 300 species of birds, making it a paradise for wildlife enthusiasts and bird watchers. With its mix of dense forests, open grasslands, and sparkling rivers, Rajaji offers visitors a perfect escape into the wild. Whether you seek adventure through jungle safaris or simply want to experience the calm beauty of untouched nature, Rajaji National Park promises an unforgettable journey.
The park was established in 1983 by merging three wildlife sanctuaries: Rajaji, Motichur, and Chilla. It is named after Sri C. Rajagopalachari, a respected freedom fighter and the first Governor-General of India.
Visitors can enjoy jungle safaris in open jeeps, which offer a chance to see wild animals in their natural surroundings. The park also has beautiful landscapes with rivers like the Ganga and Song flowing through it. It’s a great place for photography, nature walks, and peaceful relaxation.
The park is open for tourists from mid-November to mid-June. During the monsoon, it remains closed to protect the wildlife and avoid damage to the trails. Entry gates like Chilla, Motichur, and Ranipur offer different safari zones, each with its own unique beauty. Rajaji National Park is not only a wildlife destination but also a place where you can reconnect with nature and enjoy the peaceful beauty of the Himalayas.
